Like everyone, I’ve been shooting with my digital camera for years. I had found some black and white 35mm film which I used in my contax G2 a few months ago, but only recently had my photo-assistant wunderkind get it all developed. Looking through them I was struck with the vitality, emotion, and power conveyed –it looked so different from the current, digital images. These images were more about the beauty of the print and maybe we’ve forgotten what a print looks like; Young people now are barely exposed to imagery outside of their devices. I certainly appreciate many of the great new photographers and their work which relies heavily on digital files and even more so on post-production but it sometimes feels like something’s missing. Is digital too perfect?
